In this "Pedagogic Research Knowledge Exchange" series, educators from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Anglia Ruskin University will collaborate to share their teaching innovations and insights on technology-enhanced education.

Dr. Uwe Matthias Richter, Associate Professor: Digital Pedagogic Innovation, Centre for Innovation in Higher Education, Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, United Kingdom

Dr Uwe Matthias Richter is the Associate Professor: Digital Pedagogic Innovation at the Centre for Innovation in Higher Education, ARU. His research interests include pedagogic research digital pedagogic innovation, and technology-enhanced, online, and distance learning. Topic: Engagement Patterns in Online Learning

Abstract: The presentation will consider engagement patterns in online distance learning courses. While the main focus is on asynchronous and synchronous learning which Uwe investigated as part of his doctorate (https://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/id/eprint/10171207/), the session will conclude with reflections on post Covid synchronous online deliveries. The presentation will conclude with recommendations and questions for further research.

Dr Joanna Wing Yan YEUNG is a Professional Consultant at the Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Joanna is the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator offered by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). She served as a faculty member at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Innovative Learning Centre (HKJCILC), affiliated with the Center for Medical Simulation.


In recent years, she has contributed to the development of nursing education and quality governance in higher education settings and serves as external reviewers / examiners for several higher education institutions. She currently serves as the Chair of the Credentialing Committee at the Hong Kong College of Nursing and Education (HKCERN).


Joanna has incorporated AI-powered videos and VR cave in the curriculum. Her research interest includes interprofessional education and simulation.


Topic: Pedagogical Strategies in Tech-Enhanced Nursing Education

Abstract: In the rapidly evolving field of nursing education, innovative pedagogical strategies are essential to prepare students for the complexities of modern healthcare. This presentation examines innovative pedagogical strategies in nursing education, focusing on the use of simulated patients, virtual patients, VR cave, and AI-powered animation. These technologies enhance learning by providing realistic, interactive, and personalized experiences. This sharing would also include an exploration of the benefits and challenges associated with each technology, as well as case studies demonstrating the tips for successful implementation. The presentation will conclude with insights into future trends and potential developments in tech-enhanced nursing education.
