Title: Gaining Recognition for Your Teaching - Professional Development Opportunities

Abstract: Teaching has sometimes been described as a lonely experience, with just you in the classroom and limited opportunities to learn from colleagues and share your own good practice during your career. So how can you gain recognition for your teaching activities and connect with colleagues? Recognition for your teaching is so much more than just achieving a salary increase, it is the real sense of achievement, knowing you have made a positive difference to the student learning experience. Your teaching excellence can be measured by demonstrating your impact on student learning and recognition comes from showcasing your work in different ways, such as conference presentations, publishing and networking. This workshop will provide examples of how you can engage in professional development activities, share your work and gain recognition for your teaching excellence.

Workshop 4 : Good Practice for Group Work and Peer Assessment

Speaker: Dr. Paul CHIN, Head of Learning and Teaching, Centre for Learning & Teaching, University of Bath, United Kingdom

Title: Good Practice for Group Work and Peer Assessment

Abstract: Introducing students to group work and peer assessment is a well-established approach to supporting teaching and learning. There are a number of pitfalls however, if student groups are not set up correctly or the assessment not planned effectively, and this can quickly lead to problems, such as student freeloading – some students not doing their share of the work. This workshop will introduce a model for helping students work in groups, enabling them to assess each other’s contributions and provide examples of good practice for introducing group work and peer assessment in your own teaching.
